Privacy Policy

FlatMap turns the location information already stored in your photos into a map of where you have been. That is unusually personal data, so this describes exactly what the app reads, what leaves your device, and what it never touches.
What FlatMap reads
With your permission, FlatMap scans your photo library for photographs that carry location metadata. From each one it reads only three things: the coordinates, the date and time, and an identifier that lets it recognise the same photo again.
FlatMap never reads, copies, uploads or transmits the photographs themselves. The images stay in your library and are never sent anywhere.
What stays on your device
Scanning happens entirely on your device. The resulting map, your detected trips, and the places they pass through are stored locally. If you never sign in, nothing leaves your phone at all and FlatMap works fully offline.
What is sent, and when
If you sign in and choose to sync, the following is sent to our backend, hosted on Supabase:
- Location points — coordinates and timestamps derived from your photos
- Your account — the identifier and, if you choose to share it, the email address provided by Sign in with Apple
- Your profile — a display name, if you set one
This exists so your map survives losing or replacing your phone, and so you can appear on the leaderboard if you choose to.
What other people can see
Your map is private by default. If you make it public, other users may see your map and your position on the leaderboard. You can make it private again at any time.
Sign in with Apple
Sign in with Apple is the only way to create an account. Apple lets you hide your real email address, and FlatMap works exactly the same if you do.
Purchases
Purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple. FlatMap never sees your payment details. We record only whether an account is entitled to Pro, and when that entitlement expires.
Maps
Maps are rendered using Mapbox. Displaying a map requires requesting map tiles for the area being viewed, so Mapbox receives the coordinates needed to serve them, subject to Mapbox's privacy policy.
Analytics and advertising
FlatMap contains no advertising, no third-party analytics, and no tracking SDKs. Your data is never sold, rented or shared with data brokers.
Deleting your data
Signing out clears the data cached on your device. To delete your account and everything stored with it, email the address below and it will be removed.
Children
FlatMap is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, the date at the top will change and the app will say so.
